Project: Sideboard & Bookshelves

Ikea has a way of taking something large and cumbersome and turning it into something small...and cumbersome. A seemingly innocent looking stack of boxes has the ability to change the feel & function of a room in a matter of hours. Magnificent you say? Of course. Yet not quite as magnificent as Bob & Sharon's willingness to be my personal Ikea delivery drivers for these precious pieces. Despite Bob's best efforts to destroy the packages while he was still in the store (he dropped one and broke the box) they managed to sacrifice time, energy, muscles, and car space all for their favorite (& only) daughter-in-law on her birthday. To them I say Thank You. Without their kindness this post would not be possible (& I wouldn't have my furniture either). The Boxes

John & my dad united in effort to make me happy (or get me off their back, whichever you prefer)

My mom even got in on the construction

The peppernut supply...John's construction comfort food

John starting on the bookshelves...we had a minor mishap (we accidentally nailed the back panel to the front of the bookshelves)

Our dishes...lying in wait for their new home

More homeless kitchen items

The finished project

The finished project sans mirror. I will be hanging the mirror that goes with our bedroom set, but has no home in the bedroom, above the sideboard flanked by 2 sconces. (I'm going to wait until after Christmas to ask John to do this for me...I think he might need a bit of a break from house projects for awhile.)

Gorgeous! What used to sit on that wall before you got these new pieces? I'm trying to remember. Anyway, these look excellent, i love the dark wood.
