Oranges...

John's grandparents have an orange tree, but in the month of December it's more like the orange tree has them. This tree is probably the biggest tree that I've ever seen (although, admittedly, I'm not a citrus tree connoisseur) and produces a seemingly endless supply of fruit. It takes the entire Penner clan to make those citrus gems disappear and that doesn't even happen until the month of March really (unless they go bad before then). So today, my last day of domestic bliss before school begins tomorrow, I decided to do something about the many oranges that we have acquired. I juiced them, zested them, sliced them, and diced them. I made orange muffins and plan on looking for additional recipes to make use of our supply. If you have any good orange recipes you know where to send them. As usual, a pictorial tour of my juicing attempts are found below.

I think I spent a whole hour in this exact position today.

Our new kitchenaid mixer juicer attachment (Thanks mom & Sharon!)

Lots of slicing

Our sink (I washed each orange thoroughly so that when I zested the peel I wouldn't have any dirt or pesticides mingling about)

Our pulp catcher (I had to clean it out after every two oranges)

15 oranges = a pitcher full of juice
