A childhood favorite...

I remember reading this book as a child. It was my dad's when he was a kid. It is about a boy who got sick and used a big ball of string to create a system of pulleys and contraptions to allow him access to all of the things that become difficult to attain when one is sick. I don't know why I just thought about it, but if you haven't read it, it's a good one.
