San Francisco part III...Victorian Home Tour

John enrolled in a professional development course through Fresno Pacific University that required a sort of self-guided San Francisco field trip of sorts. It was a wonderful way to earn 3 semester units as it gave us a variety of historical stops to enjoy while we were there. We completed all of his course fieldwork on Friday and he will work on his reflections this week to finish up his coursework. If anyone needs units for salary scale advancement we'd highly recommend this course.

One of our stops was an historic Victorian home tour. (Obviously a highlight for me). The course book included certain addresses to examine as well as overall design trends to look for.
This was the first house that the tour directed us to examine. We were a bit nervous as it was quite run-down and in a great amount of disrepair. The rest of the homes were a delight, however.

John had to sketch this victorian home handrail. Quite unique.

How could I not take a picture of a white house with a red door?

...or a white house with black trim and flowerboxes?

John had to make a rubbing of a particular "calling card" on the sidewalk in front of a row of houses. Apparently calling cards are indicators of who worked on the particular house. These street markers have become more important as the great SF fire destroyed a large number of public records that would normally shed light on the details of a particular house.

A fantastic entry on a Victorian.
