Where were we?

On Day 1 (Which was really Day 2 if you count our air travel day) we anxiously endured an extensive car trip from D.C. to that day's ultimate destination of Cooperstown, NY. We visited a place that we have become familiar with over the past three seasons, er years, and would like to share a few photos with you. Any guesses as to which city has stirred a fondness in our hearts recently?

Please post your thoughts & ideas.

I know! I know! I drove an Italian professor there once. He paid me and it was a fun ride. He is a very sophisticated and urbane man. Also his speech had that Italian accent and rhythmic cadence to it. The tragedy of the trip was that he wanted to stop for coffee, but good coffee. Mile after mile passed and no sign of Starbucks. It turns out there are places even Starbucks won't saturate with stores. Finally, I saw a sign for a mall. Our spirits lifted "If I know America" I said, "there will be a food court and where there is food court, there is espresso." While there was a food court, the food court did not have a coffee bar. In desperation, I took the professor the the most Italian place I could find - Sbarro. I wiped the crumbs off of a table under a flickering flourescent bulb and welcomed the professor to the American heartland with a steaming styrofoam cup of reheated coffee. He was gracious, but it was clear that he was disappointed in America for this bastardization of Italy and in me for leading him there.

Oh yes, I loved the way he said the name of "the electric city," heavy on the early consonants, with a full bodied final vowel filling up his entire mouth.

If we can, at all, count on the production value of Michael Scott's 'Lazy Scranton', then the pensieros know where it is...

I look forward to more blogs about your trip!

Wow both commentators (or commentors?) nailed it. These photos were taken in Scranton (what?), The Electric City. In case you didn't know, they call it that cause of the electricity. Here's the Michael Scott Joint: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv0xBVFl0II
