We took Henry on his first camping trip last weekend. We joined the Wiens family at Huntington Lake and were hoping to gain some insights into the world of "camping with children" (which was a bit intimidating to us up until now). Unfortunately, even the best laid plans don't always work out. A dislocated elbow sent 3 of the 4 Wiens' home early to the ER in Fresno, which left us at the Upper Billy Creek campground sans friends/camping afficionados. We did alright for ourselves though, I think (minus the 45 minute drive around the lake at 2:30am...thanks Henry). We will definitely need to plan another camping trip together to make up for this attempt.
Jill, Sharon, Henry, and I drove up Sunday and stayed at Camp Keola for the night. John & Bob were backpacking with our church in the Kaiser Wilderness nearby, so they joined us Monday morning after their trip. We spent much of our time at Lakeview Cottages where Mark & Cindy were managing for the week. Pictures below...

Your post reminds me of our camping days with our boys. Such wonderful memories for the whole family. I recommend it. Fun photos.
