zwiebach & peppernut making 2011...

Over the past few years a tradition has evolved amongst the Fast family women. We get together the day before Thanksgiving to make peppernuts and zwiebach. We've got to do our part to keep our Mennonite heritage vibrant and alive for our children (& ourselves too :). We made 2 batches of peppernuts...Great-Grandma Reimer's recipe (which uses molasses) and Grandma Net's recipe (which uses orange zest). I think Henry pretty much ate his weight in peppernuts while we were there :) We had a great time!

Here's sweet Levi (and the bib is definitely NOT just an fashion accessory. That boy is a champion spitter-upper!)...

Denise was making Levi some new pairs of shoes...

Peppernut making with Henry. He pretty much just buried all of his dough under the flour, and then cut it into little bits, but that's ok...

Oh my, Henry on his perch by the peppernut bowl. I kept moving it away from him, but while I was working he kept finding ways to sneak in a few more handfuls. I thought he might turn into a peppernut he at so many...

Grandma Gail manning the peppernut pans...

I think we'd all agree that it was a good day.

This post made me drool a little! Yes, we definitely have to keep those Mennonite traditions alive, because they are so delicious!
