Day in the Life...

I like to do these "Day in the Life" posts periodically (previous posts found here). When people ask me what I do at home all day I usually have a hard time answering them. I do a lot of the same tasks over and over (and over and over) again. Preparing meals, washing dishes, sweeping the floor, doing laundry, etc. And yeah, those tasks get old, but I try everyday to model for my boys how to work hard and have a good attitude. I'm certainly not perfect at it (far from it), but I am laying the foundation for their view of the world, right now, within the walls of our home. A better job I could not find.

7am- John's up and showering, Charlie wakes up and John brings him to our bed so that I can sleep a bit longer. Henry wakes up at 7:15 and John makes him his smoothie. He likes to drink it (in his sippy cup) in bed with me while John gets ready for work.

7:30-breakfast: eggs & sausage...

Charlie is all over his sippy cup. He doesn't get much out of it yet, but he loves holding it and chewing on the spout...

After breakfast Henry helps me sweep the floor (the first of 4 sweeping sessions)...

Henry wants to listen to his music, so we turn on the ipod. He likes it when I sing along to the songs. I'm not a good singer, but he doesn't know that :)...

Time to start a load of diaper laundry...

I put Charlie in the exersaucer so that I can clean the kitchen...

Before...

After...

A big mess of paperwork. I was hoping to get this all sorted throughout the day, but that didn't happen...

Henry plays with his CARS2 racing cars. These are his favorites!...

His latest thing to do with them is line them up in the drawer of one of our side tables. They fit perfectly...

Henry also likes to ride his motorcycle (I just finished his robe last week, he wasn't very interested in wearing it at first, but now he's warming up to it)...

While I get ready, Charlie plays on the floor...

and Henry reads some books...

It's about 9:00, which means that it's time for Charlie's nap. We sit on the couch together and read some books before I feed him and put him down...

Now that Charlie is easily distracted while nursing, I let Henry watch CARS2 in the family room while I feed Charlie in the front room...

9:30- Charlie rebels against his nap. He's really congested and is having a hard time breathing through his nose, which makes nursing a bit of a challenge. When I'm congested I always feel the worst in the morning because all the gunk in my sinus' tends to pool up in my head while I sleep. I hope that this is Charlie's problem and that maybe we'll have a better nap in the afternoon.

After Charlie's failed nap attempt we read more books and play with blocks...

While I was feeding Charlie Henry took off all of the couch cushions and made a fort...

10:00- Henry and I work on a craft while Charlie eats cheerios in the highchair. We made a bunch of crayon shavings and then melted them between wax paper with the iron. Then we cut out heart shapes. (Henry really only wanted to rub the crayons against the grater, so I did all of the cutting out of hearts)...

Henry pooped out on the heart making and decided to play with Charlie's playmat...

10:30- time for a snack. Flatbread chips for me (these are delicious!)...

A bowl of cheerios for Henry...

Henry spilled his milk...

11:15- lunch time! Turkey sandwiches for John and I, PB&J for Henry (his favorite). I forgot to defrost the bread, so I just threw it in the toaster...

This is what Charlie did while I worked in the kitchen...

and Henry read books...

The missed nap is finally catching up to Charlie. I've got one crabby boy on my hands! In desperation, I decide to throw the picnic blanket on the front grass and we eat outside. Charlie is much happier outside so this is good. Henry gets excited when he sees John walk home for lunch...

This picture was taken right before John stepped in dog poop. Apparently there was a pile hiding underneath some of our leaves. Luckily John noticed it before he went inside...

Charlie's getting grouchy again because we had to go back inside...

Not sure why I chopped their heads off, but I did. Legs only in this picture...

12:00-naptime for Charlie. He was exhausted!...

Ugh. This room is depressing. Time to pick it up...

I hung our wax hearts on the tree branches on our sideboard. I think I'm going to use these branches to display things more often...

1:00-Henry's down for his nap...

I get the clean laundry out of the dryer and am ready to fold it, but get distracted so I don't get to it for awhile...

2:00- Charlie wakes up...

So we play...

Now I get to my laundry...

3:00-Oh boy, and now I'm finally getting around to the lunch dishes...

3:15- Henry wakes up, so we make some orange juice for our snack...

Then we go outside to swing...

We were outside for about 20 minutes before daddy comes home to join us! Yeah!!! He has practice at 5:15, so he comes home for an hour and a half between school and practice...

I go inside to start dinner. Chicken and Dumplings (it's a new recipe)...

After I get dinner started I take advantage of John being with the boys and I sit down at my sewing machine. Charis, Shelly and I got together last Monday to make a Single Girl block. I'm turning my block into a tree skirt, so I added a white border around it. My block has a ton of mistakes, but it should be fine for a tree skirt (I may still trim down the edge of the tree skirt or even follow the curve of the circle for the skirt, I'm not sure yet)...

After I finish putting the border on the tree skirt I work on a valance I promised to make Jill a very long time ago. I totally forgot about doing this for her. I'm in project completion mode right now, so this was another thing I was able to check off my list...

I go back outside to check on the boys. All is well, but John has to leave soon so it is time to come inside...

Henry's sitting in timeout here. I think he was throwing a fit because he wanted to eat a PB&J sandwich for dinner and I told him that wasn't on the menu...

I need to finish up dinner, so I let Henry watch a Mater's Tall Tale video on the computer while I work...

Henry helps me shred the chicken...

Dinner time! (The chicken and dumplings wasn't very good. Pretty bland. bummer.)...

Doesn't everyone eat dinner with an electric drill on their table? No? Hmmm...

Bathtime...

PJ's...

PJ pictures (because little boys in PJ's are just too cute!)...

Charlie is now in bed, but Henry is back at the dinner table because I told him he could not have dessert unless he finished his dinner. It's amazing how motivating a scoop of ice cream can be...

Thursdays are John's long days. He has practice from 5:15-7:15 and then helps run the Rec District practice for the upper division boys group after that. He doesn't usually get home until 8:30 or 9:00. I'm pretty much pooped at this point. Henry wants to pull off all the couch cushions so that he can use the couch as his "racetrack". I help him pull the cushions off and then we race his cars by pushing them back and forth to each other. I let Henry stay up until John gets home and then John puts him to bed at 9:00.

The end.

WOW!! Reminds me of the good old days when you kids were little. It's worth every last ounce of strength you've got. Look how good you all turned out! Oh, did I mention that I also prayed alot?!

You are right- it's exhausting and pretty mundane....but the best job in the world! I can't think of anything I'd rather do. We should get our boys together.
