Prayer Sticks...

One of the things I love most about motherhood is the opportunity I have to teach and train my boys.  It is certainly hard work, but boy is it rewarding when they finally GET what we're working on.  One thing that we have been doing the past few months is working on prayer.  This prayer pail idea I read about almost a year ago is AMAZING!  We pretty much copied the idea exactly and it has been the best prayer training tool.  Basically we took a bunch of popsicle sticks and wrote down a variety of different things that we wanted to pray for as a family.  At dinnertime (or sometimes lunch too) we each draw a stick and pray for whatever is listed on the stick.  Charlie draws a stick too, but obviously doesn't pray yet :)  Our prayer sticks look like this...

Nothing fancy, but highly effective.  Here's a list of some of our prayer categories:

  • Mom
  • Dad
  • Henry
  • Charlie
  • Grandparents
  • Aunts & Uncles
  • Cousins
  • Great-grandparents
  • Unsaved
  • Missionaries
  • Shut-ins
  • Sports
  • Thanksgivings
  • Current Requests
  • Shafter
  • Church
  • Pastors
Obviously, everyone's list will look different, but this works for us for now.  Not only has this been a great training tool for the boys, but it is great for John and I too!  I'd highly recommend this method, and even if you don't have kids at home I think it's a great way to pray for adults too.  Give it a try, you won't be sorry!
