So last Thursday I had a very excited little 5th grade girl run up to me with a bag FULL of hand picked oranges. (Please recall the fact that John and I are already inundated with the delightful citrus from his grandparents' tree). Not wanting to disappoint her, I gushed over the gift and raved about their smell, beauty, and health benefits. I was determined not to bring the fruit home, but was unsure of what to do with it. By the end of the day I had schemed up a plot to use them as good behavior rewards for the students who earned an "A" in behavior for the day. It worked like a charm. The kids were excited to receive them and I was happy to be rid of them. All was well, until...
I had a male student who decided that it would be a rather bright idea to put the orange in his back pocket. Yep, you guessed it, a few minutes later, forgetting about the treasure stored neatly behind him, he plopped down in his desk, only to quickly jump back up with orange juice dripping down his pant legs. We all had a good laugh at his expense. Luckily for me, this happened at the end of the day, so I got to send him home to be cleaned up by his mother. Never a dull moment I tell you...

HA! I can just see practically every one of my students (from kindergarten to fifth grade) doing exactly the same thing. I love it.
