Place setting placemats...

When I was growing up, my mom was always very good about making sure that the table was set correctly: fork on the left, plate in the middle, and knife and spoon on the right with a cup above it.  When we lived at home, Denise, Ben, and I took turns setting the table, so we all became very familiar with the layout.  Now that Henry is getting older and is starting to be able to handle some simple chores of his own, I want to make sure that I teach him how to set the table correctly too!  Because of this, I made him some place setting placemats.  I appliqued the plate, cup, and utensils on the placemats using some of my favorite fabrics that I had on hand.  Then, I used some scrappy binding to bind them, and overall I think they turned out pretty well.  I've been working on these since the beginning of the year, and finally finished them a few weeks ago.  Well worth the four-month process I think.  I love the way they turned out!

I love these Katie! I remember learning to set a proper table in seventh grade home ec. I took it very seriously and to this day use what I learned. Most of my table settings these days are tablescapes and not to really eat on, but you can be assured that the knives, forks and spoons are properly placed! Great life lessons for your little ones.

Katie, Thank goodness you are teaching your little ones manners and how we do things properly!!! That is a lost art in today's world. It is too bad that Home Ec. isn't taught any more.
Love the placemats, you are very talented and creative.

Katie - so creative and what a great idea! I also echo what has been said - good for you to teach manners. My mom taught us the proper way to set the table too and I always have to do it that way to this day... :) Good job!
